Immune-Boosting Foods

After all that has happened in 2020, and with the cold and flu season upon us, it is more important than ever to ensure our immune systems are as strong as they can be. Fortunately, we can give our immune system a little boost by making sure that we eat the right foods - keep reading to find out more.

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits are said to boost the immune system as they contain vitamin C - a vital component in producing white blood cells. The best citrus fruits for your immune system include oranges and grapefruit. Why not add these fruits to your breakfast, or try making your own smoothies?


Yoghurt

Yoghurt, specifically those containing probiotics, has a multitude of health benefits, including strengthening your immune system, and improving gut-health. Active-cultures in yoghurt helps with fighting illness, making it particularly useful to incorporate into your diet at this time of year!


Green Vegetables

Greens such as spinach and broccoli contain sources of chemicals which boost your immune response While spinach is also great for iron intake, it is also excellent for our immuno-health. Kale, green peas, and brussel sprouts are among those hailed for their excellent immune-boosting properties.


Ginger

Ginger is a  great way to get your fix of anti-inflammatory components, which is beneficial for treating a multitude of infectious illnesses. An easy way to consume ginger is to make lemon and ginger tea; grate a teaspoon of ginger into a tea strainer, and add a slice of fresh lemon. Allow to sit in boiling water for a few minutes, and enjoy! Lemon and ginger tea is also great for digestive health and your metabolism!


Garlic

Garlic can help with your immunity by acting as an antiseptic, antibacterial, and antifungal agent. Not only that, but garlic makes a delicious seasoning for most dishes - so don’t feel guilty about ‘garlic breath’ when you’re boosting your immunity!
